Bankruptcy Litigation

Our leader, David Leibowitz, has been appointed by the United States Trustee to serve as a Chapter 7 trustee. David has been a trustee since 1990. During this time, Lakelaw has overseen at least 20,000 cases.

Furthermore, they have served as trustees in chapter 11 cases and cases converted from Chapter 11 to chapter 7. They have liquidated millions in assets for distribution to creditors.

David Leibowitz is eligible to serve as an assignee in an assignment for the benefit of creditors in Illinois. David is eligible to serve as a receiver in state court litigation such as foreclosures, dissolutions of corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies and in equity cases generally. David is eligible to serve as a trustee and executor in probate cases as well.

Lakelaw also proudly represents many bankruptcy trustees and assists numerous bankruptcy attorneys in the pursuit and defense of litigation for their clients. Presently, the firm represents at least 5 other chapter 7 trustees, all of whom have selected Lakelaw because of our demonstrated expertise.

We are proud members of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. David has been invited to speak at the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees meetings. David has published in the NABT’s publication NABTalk on more than one occasion. Now, David Leibowitz has written an article on Residential Mortgage Issues in Consumer Bankruptcy Cases to be published in the 2008 Norton’s Annual Survey of Bankruptcy Law. And in September, 2008, he will make a presentation to the National Association of Consumer Advocates on Mortgage Litigation in Bankruptcy.
